The A to Z of Me

I saw this on Allie’s blog and had to play along.

A. Age: 35

B. Bed size: Queen. Bob and I started out in a Full Size bed and did just fine since we snuggle all night but it is nice to have a little more room.

C. Chore that you hate: Most of them…I enjoy doing laundry and the rest I only do because I have to.

D. Dogs: Sadie…our almost 2-year-old golden retriever/yellow lab mix…she is the best 🙂

E. Essential start to your day: Diet Coke

F. Favorite color: Pink…but I rarely wear pink…I tend to choose black clothing…but not in a goth sort of way

G. Gold or silver: I wear both but more silver than gold

H. Height: 5’3″

I. Instrument you play: I played clarinet for about a year in 5th grade…it didn’t stick

J. Job title: Executive Assistant (to the President of the company)

K. Kids: Jackson Edward…my 11 year old son…I also have a 24-year-old step son (Brian) and a 20-year-old step daughter (Heidi)…and no, we’re not having anymore

L. Live: Poolesville, MD…love this little town

M. Mother’s name: Justine…but I call her Mom or Mommy (yes, still)

N. Nicknames: Never really had one…Jackson calls me Mom (sometimes Mommy but that’s becoming more rare)…Bob and I share various pet names…but not really nicknames

O. Overnight hospital stays: My own birth…Partial Thyriodectomy when I was 20…Jackson’s birth…and I stayed with Jackson when he was admitted at 16 days for Beta Strep (I wasn’t actually the patient but I did stay overnight int he hospital for a week)

P. Pet Peeves: I have to agree with Allie on people talking on cell phones in a public restroom…ugh…I hate that!

Q.  Quote from a movie: I don’t often quote movies…more often it’s TV shows…Seriously? Seriously! from Grey’s…I can equate a Sex and the City episode to pretty much any real life scenario…so I’m constantly saying “OMG, there was a Sex and the City episode just like this!”

R. Right or Left Handed: right-handed but I am left eye dominant so I shoot left-handed

S. Siblings: I have 2 older brothers. My dad remarried and I gained a younger step sister and 2 younger step brothers (twins)…my dad adopted them so they became my half siblings and they added one of their own which was another half sister…BUT…I didn’t really grow up with my half siblings so I still consider myself the youngest and only girl growing up.

T. Time you wake up: Between 5:30 and 6:00 am on weekdays. On weekends, if I don’t have to set my alarm for anything, then I sleep until whenever but I’m usually up by 8am.

U. Underwear: boy shorts

V. Vegetable you hate: Asparagus

W. What makes you run late: Not being able to decide what to wear. Telling my son to get a move on 1000 times. Playing spider solitaire or words with friends on my phone.

X. X-rays you’ve had: hands and wrists (broken pinky, various sprains, DeQuervain’s), ankles (broken ankle, sprains…I’m a perpetual ankle twister but that doesn’t keep me out of heels), knees (patellar tracking disorder), lungs (pneumonia), tail bone (cracked twice falling down the stairs and falling in Target trying on roller blades), elbow (thought it was broken after hitting the wall snowtubing), nose (3-year-old head slammed back into my face)…my mom thinks I’m clumsy

Y. Yummy Food that you make: Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken and Dumplings, Cupcakes, Cookies, Breads…I’m a baker…and Jackson says my baked goods are better than anyone else’s 🙂

Z. Zoo animal: Polar Bear and Komodo Dragon…I like looking at all of the animals at the zoo…but I rarely go to the zoo.

Random Things About Me

  1. I am not a labels kind of girl…but…Sam & Libby and Jessica McClintock will always hold a special place in my heart.
  2. I still love getting the opportunity to do the Electric Slide (Cha Cha Slide is a close second).
  3. I am obsessed with lip stuff – chapstick, lip gloss, vaseline lip therapy, etc.
  4. Mid-day naps are my absolute guiltiest pleasure (a rare guilty pleasure, but oh so divine).
  5. If I could relive one day, it would be a day when Jax was about 3 months old…and I would spend the day holding him.
  6. If I could relive a day and change history…I would go back to the day I gave birth…request a different ob-gyn, get an epidural, and demand a C-section.
  7. I still have Christmas movies saved on my DVR…ones I didn’t watch this year and can’t quite bring myself to delete them.
  8. I am learning to establish boundaries…and it’s friggin’ hard.
  9. I wish I had known how beautiful I was 15 years ago and I wonder if I’ll look back 15 years from now and wish the same thing.
  10. I have never been able to decide if I’m a cat person or a dog person…I think I am simply an animal person.
  11. I often think that what keeps me from hitting the lottery is that I wouldn’t know how to live as a rich person…I’d still shop at Target and Kohls and complain when Diet Coke isn’t on sale.
  12. What’s more likely keeping me from winning the lottery is that I don’t buy lottery tickets.

Summer Update…short and sweet

Jackson started summer school last week and it is going great!

After school, Jax comes to work with me for the rest of the day and that’s going well too.

We went to our first Nationals game last night.

We spent the day at the Air and Space Museum yesterday.

Red Sox made it back into first place in AL East today!

The first anniversary of our move to Maryland is quickly approaching…and I have no regrets!

Signature Blonde Moment

Everyday, many times a day, I see this bus driving around the office complex. On the side of this bus, I read

This bus runs on bodies…clean, renewable, and made in the USA

This has always struck me as odd and somewhat offensive. Not necessarily personally offensive but I wondered how people that weren’t “made in the USA” felt about it. I also wondered if it offended any of the riders that perhaps don’t bathe on a regular basis and therefore aren’t really “clean” by society’s standards.

So today, I saw the bus again, just as I have nearly every day since I moved here in July. On the side of the bus, it actually reads

This bus runs on biodiesel…clean, renewable, and made in the USA

Ah…now it makes sense!

Typical blonde moment from yours truly! It made me laugh and actually still does when I think of how I had misread it for so long. Hopefully it brought you a laugh as well!

How about some good news?

We had a football playoffs pool at work. I decided to give it a shot, picked my teams, paid my $10, and watched all of the games that first weekend.

Not knowing much about football, even less about the teams, and nothing about how a pool like this works I thought I was out of the running after the first weekend of games.

I actually still kept up with the games a little. I wouldn’t call myself a football fan but baseball season hadn’t started and with the writers’ strike, there wasn’t much else to watch.

Two weeks into the playoffs, I was stopped in the bathroom and congratulated on my team picks. Huh? Turns out, I wasn’t out of the game and it was actually looking like I was on my way to winning.

My BFF AE decided that it was time for me to learn something about football. I couldn’t very well accept my winnings and admit that I picked the winners based on cute QBs (thanks to a childhood crush on “the punky QB known as McMahon“). So she taught me the basics of the game.

Now I was in and I followed every last game with almost the same enthusiasm I have for baseball (ok, that’s a bit of an exageration, but even my mom said it sounded like I was talking about baseball at times).

Alas, the Patriots lost and that put me in third place for the office pool. But I still won a little money and made my dad proud!

Snow!

We got snow…again!

Official reports this time say we got 5 inches! Unfortunately schools weren’t closed this morning and though I hoped all morning, schools didn’t close early either. But as soon as we got home, we suited up and went outside for some fun!
